Center portion of the tank bag contained all of the electronics (two-way, autocom, mp3 player, and camera). The left side tank bag extension contained our days drinking water. The right side tank bag extension contained my spare shoes. The right side bike box contained spare parts, tools, and camera gear. The center box contained snacks. The left box contained all of the wifes clothing. The left side dry bag contained all of my clothes. The center dry bag contained the tent, sleeping pad, and tripod. The right side dry bag contained one sleeping bag, and more camera gear. The black bag on top of the dry bag was yet - even more camera gear.

Area:North Bend

The stock BMW headlight is next to worthless (day or night, high or low beam). To resolve this unfortunate limitation, I installed these Ztechnik Xenon HID Driving Lights. Wow, what a difference! Maybe too much of a difference? I run these lights during the day and it has virtually eliminated cages jumping out in front of me. Even though I don’t get people flashing me, I choose to only run these lights until dusk and then turn them off (to be polite to oncoming traffic). This still leaves my original problem of lack of light at night, unresolved. However, find an uninhabited trail or stretch of road after dark… flip the “on” switch, and gain 100 feet of visibility in seconds. Quality is excellent. Install took about four hours (mostly me cleanly routing wires). This new found vision will set you back about 1K.

Location:FR-5620
Area:North Bend

Just enjoying a hot fall day next to a cool river. Unfortunately, access to this location is being seriously threatened by both ends of the freak spectrum (by utopian “eco” ferries that seek only to eradicate public access... and their nemesis… the human dregs that feel that dumping everything from household goods to automobiles is within their “right of convenience”. Once the dust settles from this fringe war... the rest of us lose the options of experience, stewardship, legacy, and transparency (aka – to leave it like we found it). Expect to be locked out of yet another of this states natural attributes - soon.

Location:Bainbridge/Seattle Ferry
Area:Seattle

My first experience with being caught out at night was on this day long WA coast loop ride. The stock BMW headlight is useless – and this experience scared me silly. Better to catch the ferry home than push on further in the dark. Adding forward lights is mandatory for me at this point.

Highway 101 along the Washington Coast is not as scenic as its southern appendage in Oregon, as a great deal of the route is inland. The Washington portion is also much less populated.

Trip:Oregon Adventure 2004   (day 4 / 5)
Location:HWY 207
Area:Wheeler County
Region:Oregon (US)
The fourth day of our Oregon adventure had us leaving from Redmond, OR in the early morning and tracking north to Benton City, WA. The best part of this route took us from the town of Mitchell, OR up through Fossil, OR. The road was vacant (we probably never encountered ten other vehicles in 100 miles of travel). Some of the turns were posted at 10 miles per hour – sweet! It was also extremely hot – in the 100s at the lower elevations.

Trip:Oregon Adventure 2004   (day 3 / 5)
Location:Rim Drive
Area:Crater Lake National Park
Region:Oregon (US)
On the third day of our Oregon adventure spent a few hours exploring around Crater Lake National Park. Advice: Get there early, definitely take the opportunity to ride around the entire park, and bring your own food and drink if you want to save a few $$. Once again, we encountered very low traffic volumes – which made the whole experience that much more enjoyable.

Eroding river banks wiped out part of the Mountain Loop Hwy – making it impassible on a big GS. We were defeated in destination only - as the route proved to be very scenic and well worth the 50+ miles we had to back track to Granite Falls.
