Intertwined in this family album is the tale of three brothers.
The eldest brother ,
the middle brother ,
and the youngest brother .
In early 1999, all three brothers purchased new and identical Yamaha WR400F's and proceeded to get these
relatively serious off-road bikes licensed for the street. We dreamed of chasing each other
to Alaska - minimal gear, no passengers, with the throttle cables stretched like guitar strings.
Pending our dream trip, we road these bikes in nearly every type of off-road and on-road motorcycle event
(harescrambles, desert races, supermoto, road-race, dual-sport, poker runs, weekend play riding and even some light
commuting). These bikes were unbelievably solid and they proved to be exceptionally capable. However, our dreams
of a three brother Alaskan 'grand-prix' never materialized. Time passed, individual circumstances changed,
old dreams were re-written.

By the end of the 2003 racing season,
two of the three brothers found willing brides... and the hand-writing was on the wall.
The transition from racing to adventure riding seemed to be more at the door-step than
ever before.
In September of 2003,
+
kicked things off by purchasing their 2004 BMW R1150GS Adventure from Ride West BMW
in Seattle, WA.
In October of 2003,
+
surprised everyone with
their timing and purchased their 2004 BMW R1150GS Adventure from the (now defunct)
Cascade BMW dealership in Kirkland, WA.
Not to be outdone,
took a huge leap of faith and
purchased his new '04 BMW R1150 GSA from Beaudry Motorsports in Post Falls,
ID in June of 2004. I say 'huge' because
was not as sure of his purchase as the other two brothers.

wanted to travel to all of the same places, ride the same terrain, carry the same gear,
etc..., however, he had the advantage of riding both of the other brothers' BMWs prior to
purchasing his... and he was not overly impressed with the performance characteristics of
either of them (even with various mods applied). Searching for viable alternatives,
looked at the new 04 KTM 950 Adventure and the 04 Triumph Tiger and the 04 Suzuki
V-Strom 650 & 1000. In the end,
pulled out the big check and went with the BMW too.
So, here we are closing out 2004... and, once again, all three brothers have identical machines. This time the
call to Alaska has less to do with the 'pace' and more to do with the 'adventure'. Plans are
once again in the works for a two wheeled trip to Alaska.
